Three days, 20 events a day, and a meet record board that looks nothing like it did on Friday morning. Here's the full story of Sports Excel Leg 2 at PADE.
Sports Excel Leg 2 closed on Sunday the way it opened — with the record board getting rewritten. Over three days of racing at Pusat Aquatik Darul Ehsan, 19 meet records fell across every stroke and almost every age group. By the time finals wrapped on Day 3, one name had appeared on that record sheet more than any other swimmer at the meet, boy or girl, junior or senior.
Lai Wen An came into this meet racing up against the Girls 13-&-Under field rather than her own 11-and-under age category. She leaves it with five meet records and eight golds from nine starts — a clean sweep across freestyle, IM and butterfly that never let up across three days.
Her record run touched nearly every part of the pool: the 100m freestyle and 400m IM on Day 1, the 200m IM on Day 2, then the 50m butterfly and 200m freestyle on Day 3. There's no longer a case to make that this was a fluke of one good race — it's a swimmer operating a full level above her own age bracket and still setting the pace.
Two swimmers left PADE unbeaten. Ayaz Zahin Bin Azhar (EZY, 13) won 12 of his 14 races across the full three days — backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle and IM, the entire programme, with no stroke he couldn't win. It's the loudest possible answer to the question his eight-event startlist raised before the meet even began.
Quieter, but just as complete: Yoong Jia Jia (Girls 19 & Over) went 4-for-4 — every single race she swam ended in gold, and three of those four were meet records, capped by a 1500m freestyle and a final-day 200m freestyle double. A senior swimmer with a perfect record across every one of her events is easy to miss next to the age-group storylines, but it's one of the cleanest meets anyone had at PADE.
Lewis Mu Zi Long (DSA, 14) backed up his pre-meet record-holder status with 7 golds from 9 races across backstroke, freestyle and IM, though the 50m freestyle on Day 2 confirmed sprinting still isn't where he does his damage. Chong Yuan Yi (PADE, 17) delivered exactly what her distance-freestyle billing promised — 4 golds from 6 races and 2 records, including the 1500m freestyle on the meet's final day. Dylan Leong Yi Quan and Mishya Khor Yue Lynn each broke two records of their own across backstroke and butterfly respectively, and Khoo Sue Enn's breaststroke-anchored programme produced 4 golds from 6 starts without needing a record to make the point.
Full results across all three days — every swimmer, every event, every place — are live now on Heat Check, along with a gold-medalist lookup that shows the correct age bracket for every event. Search any swimmer's name on the Sports Excel Leg 2 page to see exactly how their meet went.
